Away to School
I spent a day this week helping a grandson move into his college dorm. It was fun to see the excitement as he began reaching for his professional dreams, and the nervous delight as he leapt to a level of autonomy he has anticipated for a long time.
I found myself reflecting on my feelings while sending my youngest child to college. Most of my older kids attended local colleges, and this was my first experience sending my child to a distant “away” university experience. I kept hunting out a fluffy comforter, favorite foods, little notes I could tuck into her luggage… things that might comfort her and remind her of home and that I love her.
I think when Father sends us off to our “away” school of mortality, He tucks in little scriptural reminders of home, and sends the Comforter to wrap us in peace and remind us of home while we work to become who we dream and hope to be. I hope we notice and appreciate His love.
